Medication Management
Careful prescribing and ongoing support — centered around you, not the prescription pad.
A thoughtful approach to medication
Medication isn’t one-size-fits-all, and it isn’t the answer to every problem. At The Psychiatric Center, we take time to understand your full clinical picture — your history, your goals, how you’ve responded to treatments in the past, and what you’re hoping medication can (and can’t) do for you.
We prescribe and manage medications for a wide range of conditions — depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, insomnia, and more. Often this works best alongside therapy, and we’ll help coordinate that care if it’s right for you.
Some patients come to us already taking medications and looking for a careful second opinion. Others are starting from scratch. Either way, our approach is the same: collaborative, evidence-based, and unhurried.
Common concerns we address
Taking psychiatric medication can feel weighty — there’s a lot of cultural noise around it, and most people come in with real questions. We talk through them honestly, every time.
Will this change who I am?
No. Our goal is never to dull or erase you — it’s to help lift the symptoms that are interfering with your daily life so the rest of you has room to show up.
What about side effects?
Every medication has potential side effects. We’ll discuss them openly before you start, and we monitor you closely afterward. Most side effects, when they occur, can be managed by adjusting the dose or switching medications.
Do I have to stay on it forever?
Not necessarily. We revisit that question regularly. Some people benefit long-term; others use medication for a season and then taper off with our guidance. You won’t be pressured either way.
Can you prescribe controlled substances?
Yes — including stimulants and benzodiazepines — when clinically appropriate and safe. Controlled medications require stricter monitoring, and we follow best-practice guidelines to prevent dependency or misuse.

Our approach
What to expect
01
Initial evaluation
We review your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, and any past medication trials. We take time to understand not just what’s going on, but why — from your metabolism to your neurological profile.
02
Personalized plan
In select cases we use GeneSight® pharmacogenomic testing to understand how your genetic makeup may affect your response, helping us choose medications better aligned with your body’s metabolism.
03
Expert selection
Our clinicians bring advanced training in psychopharmacology — the science of how medications affect the brain. We select treatment based on your clinical picture, goals, and likely biological response.
04
Ongoing care
We typically see patients every 4–8 weeks early on. As stability improves, visits space out. We adjust based on your experience, not a rigid algorithm — and you’ll be part of every decision.
Telehealth, in-person, or both
Medication management visits are available via telehealth or in-person, depending on your preference and the type of medication being prescribed. Some controlled substances require an in-person visit; we’ll let you know up front when that applies.
Insurance & coverage
We accept most major insurances, and we’re in-network with the Emory Healthcare Network. When you call to schedule, our front desk will verify your specific benefits and walk you through what to expect.
For a detailed list of accepted plans and answers to common billing questions, see our FAQ page.
Ready to start?
Call us to schedule. Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks. Existing patients can manage appointments through the patient portal.
