Our story

Rooted in care. Built for change.

The Psychiatric Center was founded with a simple, urgent belief: that mental healthcare should be as thoughtful, accessible, and personal as the people it serves.

Over 40 years ago, a collaboration between Coliseum Medical Center and The Medical Center in Macon, Georgia created a community-based psychiatric program — a bold investment in the mental health needs of Middle Georgia. That early vision laid the foundation for what has become one of the region’s most trusted resources for psychiatric care.

Today, The Psychiatric Center remains committed to that mission under the leadership of Dr. Sarah Graff, a board-certified psychiatrist with a deep focus on patient-centered systems and evidence-based care. Our team offers comprehensive services — including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, therapy and counseling, and trauma-informed treatment — for adults of all backgrounds and clinical needs.

We specialize in helping patients with complex psychiatric presentations, co-occurring diagnoses, and long-term treatment plans. Whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, or treatment-resistant conditions, we tailor care to the individual — not the label.

Every member of our team, from our therapists to our residents to our care coordinators, shares one goal: to make mental health care more responsive, humane, and sustainable.

We’re proud to serve the Middle Georgia community and to be part of a new chapter in mental healthcare — one that evolves with you.
