Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to help you get started, feel supported, and stay informed.
Getting started
Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?
For most appointments, no referral is required. If your primary care provider or therapist refers you directly, we’ll coordinate care with them when you give us permission. Spravato treatment is the exception — it does require a referral.
What’s the best way to schedule?
Call our front office at (478) 745-9206. Our intake coordinator will walk you through next steps and help verify your insurance benefits. Existing patients can also manage appointments through the patient portal.
Where are you located?
Our clinic is at 2064 Vineville Ave, Macon, GA 31204.
What if I’m having a mental health emergency?
If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Services and treatment
What conditions do you treat?
We treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma-related conditions, OCD, and other psychiatric concerns. If you’re not sure whether we’re the right fit, give us a call. Our full list is on the conditions page.
Do you offer therapy or just medication?
Both. Our team includes psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, and licensed therapists. Some patients receive only therapy, others only medication, and many receive both.
What is Spravato® and how do I access it?
Spravato® is an in-office esketamine treatment for treatment-resistant depression and major depressive disorder with suicidal thoughts. A referral is required. Learn more on our Spravato page.
Appointments
How soon can I be seen?
We often have immediate openings with psychiatric residents supervised by Dr. Sarah Graff, plus appointments with our nurse practitioners and psychiatrists depending on availability. Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks.
Will I always see the same provider?
Whenever possible, yes. We believe in continuity of care and assign a consistent provider or treatment team to each patient.
Can I be seen by telehealth?
Yes — most services are available by secure video. Some, like Spravato, require in-person visits. For your first visit, we generally ask that you come into the office for the initial evaluation; after that, follow-ups can happen virtually. More on our telehealth page.
Insurance and payment
Do you take insurance?
Yes — we accept most major insurances and are in-network with the Emory Healthcare Network. Coverage details vary by plan, so we’ll verify your specific benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises.
How do I know if you’re covered by my plan?
The fastest way is to call us at (478) 745-9206 — we’ll verify your benefits directly. You can also check your insurer’s provider directory online or call the number on the back of your card.
What if I don’t have insurance?
We offer straightforward private-pay options. Call our office and we’ll walk you through the rates — no surprises.
GeneSight® genetic testing
What is GeneSight® testing?
GeneSight® is a genetic test that analyzes how your DNA influences the way your body processes psychiatric medications. It can help us choose medications more likely to work well for you and avoid those that may cause side effects or be less effective.
When might GeneSight® be a fit?
We may recommend it if you’ve tried multiple medications without success, experienced strong side effects, or your symptoms are complex or treatment-resistant.
Is it covered by insurance?
Many insurance plans cover GeneSight®, including Medicare. Out-of-pocket costs depend on your specific benefits, and the company offers financial assistance for those who qualify. We’ll walk you through the process before proceeding.
Prescriptions
How do I request a refill?
Call our office or use your pharmacy’s refill request system. Please allow up to 48 business hours for processing.
Can you prescribe controlled substances?
Yes, when clinically appropriate. Controlled medications require careful monitoring and regular follow-up appointments.
Still have questions?
Call us. We’ll answer them directly and help you figure out next steps.
